Humanity has survived – but only in the dystopian underground facility Securos, where the air supply is depleting and engineers Alex and Nick spend their days in a futile attempt to save it. Sacrifices are enforced, but a lifetime of imagining an alternative existence inspires Alex to determine her own fate.
AIR is an award-winning science fiction short film, produced by Hayley Nebauer and Emma E. Maclennan, starring Antonia Thomas, Tom Riley and David Schofield.
Following its world premiere at the prestigious, Oscar®-qualifying Palm Springs International ShortFest 2014, AIR had a brilliant international festival run and went on to win Best Sci-Fi Short Film at Phoenix Film Festival 2015 and Best Sci-Fi Short Film at London Independent Film Festival 2015. After its UK premiere at the BAFTA-qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival, AIR was one of only 6 films chosen to be showcased at a special event at the festival sponsored by Creative England called ‘Meet The Filmmakers’, followed by a panel discussion with Director/Producer Emma E. Maclennan.
AIR is distributed worldwide by Shorts International Ltd, operator and owner of ShortsTV – the world’s first and leading 24/7 HD TV channel and network dedicated to short movies – and the company behind the annual Oscar-Nominated Short Films theatrical showcase. Since 2018, AIR has been exhibited globally through television and digital distribution on ShortsTV, Apple iTunes and Amazon Prime Video.
AIR is the only film ever to have sets built inside a gallery at the V&A Museum in London – the world’s leading museum of art and design. While the museum’s European galleries were closed for refurbishment, the filmmakers of AIR were given unprecedented permission to build film sets inside the actual gallery in which the majority of the film was shot. A once in a life-time experience!
